Rofhiwa Rampfumedzi: A Tribute to a Radio Icon

Phalaphala FM, the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s radio station based in Limpopo, mourns the passing of its beloved presenter, Rofhiwa Rampfumedzi, who passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, after a brief illness.

Rofhiwa started his journey at Phalaphala FM as a Music Compiler and later became the presenter of Zwa Mitambo, a sports show aired on weekdays from 19:00 to 20:00. His charismatic presence on air and at the station will be deeply missed. Madikana Matjila, the Limpopo Combo Business Manager, expressed heartfelt condolences to Rofhiwa’s family and all the listeners of Phalaphala FM. He acknowledged Rofhiwa’s dedication and passion for delivering sports content to the station’s audience.

Tributes Pour In for Radio Presenter, Rampsy

Following the tragic news of the passing of Phalaphala FM’s sports presenter, Rofhiwa “Rampsy” Rampfumedzi, tributes flooded in from relatives, friends, colleagues, and listeners. Rampsy, who was only 41 years old, passed away at Mediclinic in Polokwane on Thursday, January 7, after a short illness.

During his 16 years at Phalaphala FM, Rampsy worked on various programs, including serving as a music compiler and presenting the “Vhugalatenga” show. At the time of his death, he was hosting the “Zwamitambo” sports show from Monday to Friday.

His uncle, Mr. Balanganani Rampfumedzi, described Rampsy’s death as a significant loss to the family, praising his accomplishments and impact on the community. He emphasized Rampsy’s humility, love, respect, and ever-smiling face, which endeared him to many.

Phalaphala FM’s sports producer, Mr. Tshililo “Chiraiza” Nelufule, lauded Rampsy’s professionalism and encouraged young presenters to emulate his dedication and fearlessness. Rampsy’s contributions to the radio industry, especially in shaping sports broadcasting, were acknowledged and celebrated.

Ms. Sharon Ravele, Phalaphala FM’s program manager, highlighted Rampsy’s role as a mentor and leader in the community. She described him as an icon of hope and a role model, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of broadcasters.

A memorial service for Rofhiwa Rampfumedzi will be held at the SABC Limpopo Hall in Polokwane, with the funeral service scheduled for Saturday, January 13, in Polokwane, where he will be laid to rest in Tshakhuma Mibomoni.
