Makhadzi: From Rural Roots to Musical Stardom
Ndivhunzannyi Ralivhona, popularly known as Makhadzi, is a South African singer who has captured the hearts of many with her unique style and powerful voice. Born on June 30, 1996, in Ha-Mashamba, Limpopo, Makhadzi’s journey to success began at a young age. Raised in a small village, she discovered her passion for music and dance early on, performing at taxi ranks to earn money.
Career Beginnings
At just 12 years old, Makhadzi started her career as a dancer before transitioning to become a singer. She signed her first record deal with Rita Dee Entertainment while still attending school and released her debut album, “Muhwalo Uya Ndemela,” in 2015. However, it was her single “Tshanda Vhuya,” released in 2017, that brought her widespread recognition in South Africa.
Musical Success
Makhadzi’s rise to fame continued with her second studio album, “Matorokisi,” released in 2019, which debuted at number two in South Africa. Her third album, “Kokovha” (2020), achieved even greater success, topping the South African iTunes albums chart and producing hit singles like “Amadoda,” “Mphemphe,” and “Tshikwama.”
In 2021, her fourth studio album, “African Queen,” earned gold certification in South Africa, while her EP “Pain Ya Jealousy” also achieved gold status in 2022. Makhadzi’s fifth studio album, “African Queen 2.0” (2022), reached number one in the country, solidifying her status as a powerhouse in the music industry.
Continued Achievements
Makhadzi’s accomplishments extend beyond music. In December 2021, she launched her own brand, Kokovha, in collaboration with Kicks Sportwear, and later introduced her body lotion line, Mavoda, in March 2022.
Her success has garnered numerous awards and nominations, including wins at the AFRIMA and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. She has also been recognized at prestigious events like the South African Music Awards and the Metro FM Music Awards for her contributions to the industry.
Looking Ahead
In early 2023, Makhadzi parted ways with her former record label, Open Mic Productions, to establish her own imprint, Makhadzi Entertainment. She wasted no time, releasing her sixth studio album, “Mbofholowo,” in September 2023, which quickly amassed over a million streams on iTunes.
